The museum has got available rich collections, related to life of tribes, nations and ethnic groups, inhabiting the region’s territory.

The basis of the museum’s exposition is a private collection, gathered by Feodor Akimovich Kovalenko, a famous Krasnodar merchant and patron of arts, and handed over to the city in 1904 as a gift.

The setting up of the monument was dated for centenary jubilee of resettlement of the Black Sea Troops of Cossacks.

Creation of a memorial obelisk was timed to the celebration of bicentenary of the Kuban Cossack Troops, ceremonially commemorated in October of 1896.

The laying of cathedral was performed at the expense of Cossack troops in 1853 in place of an old wooden Voskresensky Cathedral.
