Troops Alexandro-Nevsky CathedralThe laying of cathedral was performed at the expense of Cossack troops in 1853 in place of an old wooden Voskresensky Cathedral. The construction with expenditures of 100 thousand rubles had lasted for 19 years — the cathedral was sanctified only in 1872. The cathedral construction works were interrupted by the Crimean War. The Troops Cathedral kept Kuban Cossacks relics, including regalia of the Kuban Cossacks Troops, and it held all the solemn ceremonies of Ekaterinodar’s Kuban Cossacks. Assigned to the cathedral there was a famous troops choir, which later on has become a prototype for the Kuban Cossack Chorus. In 1937 the cathedral was demolished. The decision about its restoration was authorized in 2003 by the governor of Kuban A. Tkachev. It was agreed to restore the troops cathedral at the new place — at the beginning of Krasnaya street. Two years later after the construction start of cathedral the Patriarch of Moscow and of all Russia Alexy II has sanctified the bells and domes of the cathedral, which was then under construction. |
