General information

Novorossiysk is situated at the shore of one of the most comfortable deep-water Black Sea bays — Tsemeskaya Bay. The city-port is one of the largest industrial centres of Krasnodar Territory. However, its outskirts include several resort settlements: Yuzhnaya Ozereevka, Abrau, Soukhaya Schel, Shirokaya Balka, Myskhako, where 47 health-centres are functioning. The largest holiday-rest zone is Shirokaya Balka tract, which is situated at the mountainsides of North-Caucasian mountains at Abrau peninsula. The beach zone is stretched out by a narrow strip, and the sea-bottom is rocky. In the warm sea waters there are many crabs, mussels, various Black-Sea fish, which is particularly attractive for the fanciers of underwater swimming and fishing. The beaches here are mainly covered with pebble. The majority of health-centres have their own beach zones.

The climate has its resembling features with the subtropics of Mediterranean. Winter lasts here for about 30 days, and the warm season is 200-225 days long.

In Novorossiysk there are many archaeological and historical landmarks — the city-hero is one of the most visited places, in connection with military operations in Western Caucasus at the times of the Great Patriotic war (WWII).

There is also the oldest Russian factory producing sparkling wines of «Abrau-Dyurso» brand situated here. The special museum is established at the factory, there is also a wine-testing hall available. The small settlement of Myskhako is also famous for its vineyards, where the best Russian varieties of grapes like «Cabernet-Sovignon» ripen. «Myskhako» winery is one of the best wine-producers of Russia.

There is one of the largest water-parks in Russia situated at the territory of the city. Novorossiysk has the bus routes, connecting the resort zones of the Russian south. An international marine passenger line between Russia and Ukraine has been launched. By the marine catamaran one can get from Novorossiysk to Sochi, Yalta, Evpatoria, Sevastopol and Odessa.
