Primorsko-Akhtarsk is situated at the coastline of Azov Sea, 151 km north-west from Krasnodar. Town of Primorsko-Akhtarsk had emerged in place of a Turkish fortress named Akhtar-Bakhtar (translated as “White cliff at the sea shore”). First Turks, later Russians, had grown fond of this place for its proximity to the seaside, excellent location and favourable climate. In the Soviet period Primorsko-Akhtarsk became one of the largest industrial centres at Azov seaside. The waters of Azov Sea, rich with fish, mild climate and advantageous geographic location had contributed to rapid growth of the settlement: at the beginning of 20th century its was an active sea-port, where Russian and foreign vessels were coming in. The landscape in the vicinity of Primorsko-Akhtarsk makes one inclined to resting: steady strip of sandy or sand and pebble beach, dark blue of the sea, branchy willows, lush greenery of shrubs. There are 235 sunny days in a year here. Primorsko-Akhtarsk is appreciated by the followers of affordable rest, as well as by hunters and fishermen: there are plenty of limans (coastal lakes) and lakes, which have enough of red-finned mullet, pike, sea-roach, zander and other kinds of fish. There are fishing trips being organized at Achuevskaya spit and Palchikovsky liman. Just several kilometers away from the town there is a moderate-sized lake, where lotus is growing.
