General information

Located at Tamansky peninsula Temryuksky region is washed by two seas — Black and Azov, and borders on Ukraine across Kerchensky strait. There are plenty of creeks, limans (coastal lakes), lakes and fluxes (swamped banks of steppe rivers).

The sea-coast line is 250 km long, out of which 220 km are sandy beaches — the most valued and large beaches in Russia. There are unique natural objects located at Tamansky peninsula — mud volcanoes. These are the only active volcanoes all over Caucasus. The largest deposits of therapeutic semi-volcanic mineral mud are concentrated here.

The climate of Temryuk region is moderate, transitional from marine to continental. Winters are mild, windy and rainy. The swimming season lasts from June to September, as for the number of sunny days — Temryuk prevails over Gelendzhik and Sochi.

The region stakes on children’s and family holiday-making, the conditions are being set-up for pitching the tent camps. There are more than 80 recreation homes, pensions and auto-camping sites set along the beachline. In holiday homes of Temryuk peninsula scuba diving is actively developing. The water area from Anapa up to Taman has got the largest reefs all through the Black Sea coast of Caucasus: with beautiful landscapes, wall thickness up to 8 m, niches and grottoes. The history and culture of Tamansky peninsula are quite interesting: tens of dolmens, settlements, hundreds of burial mounds and temple monuments can be visited, and excavations to participate in. Also Temryuksky region is famous for its annual bike-festival in South of Russia.

The leading sectors of Temryuksky region economy are wine-growing and wine-making. Multiple wine-making enterprises such as "Fanagoria", "Kubanvino" and others produce more than 50 varieties of wine brands, which are famous far beyond the borders of Kuban.
