TEMRIUKSKY AREA The area of Temryuk, located at the peninsula of Taman, is washed by the Black and Azov Seas, bordering on Ukraine through the strait of Kerch. The distance from Krasnodar — 147 km. Bending its way around Temryuk, the river of Kuban flows into the Sea of Azov, forming a picturesque delta. In this area, there are many gulfs, estuaries, lakes, and fluxes. There are some unique natural objects, such as; the mud volcanoes available at the peninsula of Taman. These are the only active volcanoes across left in the entire Caucasus area. The history and culture of Tamansky peninsula is rather interesting: in here, one can see dozens of dolmens, settlements, hundreds of barrows and temple monuments, and even to visit some places of excavation. 1. A SIGHTSEEING TOUR OF TAMAN Duration — 3 hours. During the excursion you will attend a memorial to the participants of the Great Patriotic War, opened by the 30th Anniversary of the Great Victory, the museum of military equipment under the open sky, called «Voennaya Gorka». The legendary Army of Taman made its way from here. During the years of the Great Patriotic War, Taman became an arena of some severe battles on the ground, the sea, and the air. In addition, the excursion includes attendance of a local history museum. 2. THE SECRET OF MUD VOLCANOS Duration — 1 day. (Temryuk City — Za Rodinu Settlement) The mud volcanoes make a so-called visiting card of Tamanasky peninsula. All people know about the medical properties of the mud. There are 42 volcanoes located here, including some active volcanoes among them, the extinct volcanoes, and the temporarily active ones. Gnilaya mountain, which is located in the suburb of Temryuk is a constantly active volcano. It is a low, flat elevation, having a shape of a truncated cone, towering about 32 m above the level of Azov Sea. Sometimes one can observe here the so-called pulsing dirt, rising 3 m high above the flat surface. 3. TO THE VALLEY OF LOTUSES Duration — 2-3 hours, available from July until August. The valley of lotuses is a unique opportunity to enjoy a water walk by a boat and to see the blossoming Indian lotuses. At the bottom of Dubovy Rynok Mountain you will get off a bus and get into the shallow water boats and cover a way of 10 km along the man-made river of Kazachy Erik, from which you will get into the estuary of Akhtanizovsky, where the sacred pink flower got itself acclimatized. 4. ACROSS THE ANCIENT LAND OF TAMAN Duration — 5 hours, available all-the-year-round. (Temryuk City — Taman settlement — Tuzla Spit) You will discover the history of Tamansky peninsula - being a crossroads of the overland and sea trading ways, and highly populated in the olden days. The excursion includes the visiting of excavations of the ancient Greek cities of Fanagoria and Hermonassa, as well as Tmutarakan — the capitals of the Old Russian princedom. In addition, the program of the tour includes attendance of Suvorov's fortification in Fanagoria, the temple of the Intercession of the Mother of God, a small house-museum of M. Yu. Lermontov, and a unique source, called — the Turkish fountain, a monument to the first Kuban Cossacks. |
